This is my beloved son, in whom I am well-pleased. Matt. 3:17
Before Orlando’s Holy Land Experience (2001) and the recent spate of creationist museums across the nation, there was Holy Land USA in Waterbury, Connecticut. Opened in 1960 by Waterbury attorney John Baptist Greco, the park aimed to reconstruct Biblical Bethlehem and Jerusalem — largely out of discarded construction materials. At its height, Holy Land USA, with it’s Hollywood-inspired hillside signage, attracted 40,000 visitors a year. Closed in 1984 and willed to the Religious Sisters of Filippi Greco in 1986, it remains a destination for vandals and adventurous tourists.
